Betty is the 6th of 9 children of Ed and Bessie Carrier, and the youngest girl. She was born September 22, 1930 in Thomas, Oklahoma. Her older sister Opal pretty much raised her as mom and dad were busy working the farm and seeing to the other children. Betty is a country girl, having been part of large family on the farm in Thomas. Oklahoma, where you cooked what you ate, and ate what you grew and raised. Her family relocated from Thomas to Coyle in the early 40's where she attended high school, graduating with 8 other students. She then moved to Stillwater and attended Oklahoma State University classes and did office work. She met Harvey Thurman in 1958, and they married in January 1959. They moved to Oklahoma City in 1963, and found out one nice summer day that year she was pregnant with her first and only child, Jay. After Jay started school in 1969 Betty went back to work as a receptionist for Dr. Larson Keso, an orthodontist in Edmond. Betty retired after working there 25 years, despite Dr. Keso trying everything possible to keep her around. Time had come for Harvey to retire as well from a long career with AT&T, and they spent a lot of time traveling together to sight-see and visit family all over the country.

Harvey and Betty were married for 52 years. He recently passed away in August, 2011. Betty feels his loss most every moment, as they were indeed a perfect match, and doted on each other. Aside from road-tripping together, they enjoyed watching their son and then their grandchildren play sports and perform on stage, planning family get-togethers and visiting their many friends. She remains an avid sports fan, loves to help with cooking, and enjoys helping others in any way she can. While she does not have any games she is crazy about, she loves to watch and enjoy time with others. Betty loves her earrings and likes to have nice outfits to wear.

Betty's family includes her son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Louise. She has two surviving brothers, Perk and Laurence. Perk lives in Early, Texas, and Laurence lives in Cushing, Oklahoma. She has five grandchildren, Mallory "Nikki" McShane, Courtney Goss, Chad Thurman, Benjamin Hossein Dabiri and Cameron Dabiri. She also has a large extended family here in Oklahoma, as well as family in California.
